This year, during my time as a long-term teacher, I got trained in Sonday System. This is an Orton-Gillingham Reading Intervention to help students. The program is six steps to do daily for forty minutes. Within the year, I had two different groups of four students. Three out of the four students started on level eight at the beginning of the year. The other student started on level twelve in January. By the end of the year, one group progressed to level twenty-five and the other group progressed to level sixteen. Through trial and error, I learned what worked for all the students to make growth. I was constantly coming up with new ways to teach the same material, if that is what the students needed. By creating games for practicing spelling and automaticity, or letting them teach me to help them understand what they were doing.
